Background
O.H.I.D. is a community-based organization established on the 2nd day of September, 2020, and registered with the district local government under REG: 1667/22. O.H.I.D. is based in the Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, Kamwenge District. The organization was founded in response to the severe challenges faced by community members, including youth, women, and other vulnerable groups, living in the Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement and surrounding areas. These challenges include food insecurity, a shortage of skills that hinders community members from competing in the job market, lack of access to financial services, poor hygiene, and inadequate business management skills.
Vision
To transform the lifestyle of community members by promoting an improved model of living.
Mission
The organization, Outreach and Handcrafts Initiators for Development (O.H.I.D.), has the mission of empowering communities to become self-reliant and resilient by addressing precarious living conditions.
Projects
OHID is currently implementing handicraft, adult education, and agricultural projects that serve 70 direct beneficiaries. Through these projects, participants acquire life skills such as knitting, basket making, weaving, and more. In the adult education program, they gain literacy and numeracy skills in both English and local languages. In the agricultural program, they learn improved farming techniques.
